In April 2006 I returned to Moshi for a second
African go-round. Similar to last year, I'll be helping charitable
Tanzanian HIV-related organizations expand and improve their programs
or facilities. Also similar to last year, I plan on doing my best
to integrate with Tanzanian society, its diverse members, and its
sometimes (from our point of view) idiosyncratic behaviour. It
was by sharing some cultural odds and ends and a few anecdotes that I
hoped to serve up a few slices of real Tanzanian life last year, a task to which I shall once again
dedicate some of my spare attention this time around.
This year's edition of my blog will be a little
different. One major change is that my subjects will be predetermined,
at least to some extent. This is because each blog entry will be
related in some way to a chapter from Mzungu Days. I may write
directly about a chapter's topics, but I may also find
some sneaky ways of (tenuously) connecting topics in the book to new ideas.
It goes without saying that unless you
own the book,
you won't really be getting the full experience.
Another planned change is to make better use of
pictures, as we are all aware of their 1000-times domination over
words when it comes to telling about things (by my calculations I just
have to post 35 pictures and I'll surpass last year's output).
The written portion of my entries may be shorter, possibly more
informal, and I may add profiles of people or projects I'm involved
with, or other miscellany. Finally, two things that
do not change: 1. I make no promises about the quality nor the
frequency of entries, and 2. The opinions and views expressed are mine
alone.
